Now that you have gone

I walk the same beach
Still drink coffee at the cafe
Where we used to go

But I walk alone
Don't share a cake anymore
Now that you have gone

Bed is cold at night
I can’t hear you breathe
Sleeping peacefully

The stars still sparkle
But I do not see your eyes
Or your cheeky grin

As the fresh day dawns
You don’t nudge me in the ribs
For a cup of tea

Sun still shines each day
For all but the lonely man
He grows cold alone

Chill wind sings sad songs
I put the heater on to warm me
As you are not here

This is so heartbreaking, no doubt it's difficult to endure the loss and absence of our loved ones. Beautifully penned.

    Lots of love,
    Sanaa

  2. Robin, I feel your poem deeply. Though life continues to go on, some things don't have the same meaning or bring the same joy in the absence of the one loved & the days (despite the sun) are not quite as warm.

But I do not see your eyes
Or your cheeky grin" .....absence appears here as sweet, warm, loving and with all the depth of sadness...beautiful Robin...

Tears welled up as I read the last 2 stanzas...such a feeling of aloneness and loneliness...sometimes on those days I never see the sun shine. You remind me I must...thank you Robin!

  6. Poignant. I feel the chill, but also feel the warmth of all the love poems you/she generate, including this one.

  8. The feeling of cold comes shivering through the words and into our hearts..how can we ever feel warm when the one we love so deeply leaves us..I'm sorry..

  15. A long life time together in a close relationship broken by the death of one must be hell. They say it is like an amputation. At least you have family around you...this may help a little.

  18. Angst ridden and sad, but many men and women feel, or have felt this way. A universal feeling. When it happened to me it was heartbreaking.

  19. What a poignant depiction of how life goes on, though not at all in the same way, after we have lost our loved one!
