After ten years

Never used to look like this, you won't recall me

I caused innocent cute girl to die years ago

A young thing who sweet looks would break anyone's heart

Her untimely death was entirely up to me

When I was driving oh so many years ago

Butcher from hell they called me putting fear in all

When driving that foggy day too fast (so they say)

Peering through the mist following sedan in front

When in the dimness this girl tried to cross the road

Brushed against sedan which not a soul did see

He didn't stop, didn't care one bit, all left to me

I called ambulance, cops came too unknown to me

The girl died before they got to hospital

No witnesses, no details of the death, just me

Was arrested as they checked details of the site

Court decided twelve years the time for me

I got out after ten years which was a bonus

I didn't need disguise but did reshape my life

Swept the past under the carpet as they say

Church rector wed wife and me; my past swept away

My hair fell out

First of all my hair fell out
My limbs felt wrong
Thought I had gout
I was so tired
Did not go out
Once exposed to gamma rays

Thought I was lucky lad
Six killed outright
Thought that was bad
But was dying,
Sadly, slowly

Didn't say goodbye to wife
Or little ones
Shut out of sight
It was that bad

Sorry it's my fault

"Sorry, it's my fault" she said getting out of her car to look at my dented rear end...of my car that is. At first I had been furious but my damage was slight and she continued to exchange details with me as other vehicles cautiously passed us by. 

We also exchanged telephone numbers and other details for insurance purposes. Just as I checked if I could still open the trunk, she bent down to pick up her license plate and others bits that were now lying on the road. 

As I watched I could see she was quite pretty and then the penny dropped (literally) as I had known her in junior high. "It's Penny Davis, isn't it" I exclaimed, now bending down to help her with a smile on my face then as she nodded she too recognised me "Looks like an expensive first date for us, doesn't it?"

One false step

Our gang was down by the river again with our shoes off of course, wading in the stream.

We had to be careful because the stones in the water were hard on on our feet so there was a lot of Oohs and Aahs as we walked along.

Each of us had nets, cans or just hands to to catch fish if we could find them while little Johnny Miller just had a stick to poke at things and just be a nuisance.

I had caught a tiddler and Jenny had found a fresh water crayfish and screamed so much that it made us all laugh.

All of a sudden there was a shout and splash from behind as Johnny Miller cried out.

He had taken one false step and fallen in the water which was the best thing to happen that day.

Life for me today

I hate the rattle of my bones
I loathe the ringing of the phones
Others hate to hear my moans
But that is life for me today

I risk walking down the street
As I slip and slide on my feet
So I shun everyone I meet
For that is life for me today

I fear my falling at every step
All of me seems so inept
I can't say I've been well kept
Up to this very point today

Life was fun when I was young
Oh! What songs I have sung
Oops! Now I've trod in some dung
Ah! That is life for me today
