You lie to me
"You lie to me" she said, we lay in bed
I replied "Don't need to, I tell the truth"
"You're beautiful, I love your hair and eyes;
Your soft skin, what is the need for lies?"
At any other time she then would laugh
But now it was serious and not a game
She wept, "I know about the other one"
I saw you in town with your honey bun"
"Oh that was just an office girl my love
Think she works in finance or somewhere else
She got in the lift t'was small talk that's all
I went to the bank, she went up the mall"
I had lied to her, for that was quite true
Not with office girl but you know who
All this was years ago, I don't know why
She then shook her head and began to cry

Wires crossed
True, I was not wise
What could I do otherwise?
So you heard my sighs
It was a surprise
We had got our wires crosswise
What do you advise?
T'was those little lies
That led me to my demise
Now I've lost the prize

The office gossip
"It was only a little lie, it wouldn't hurt anybody, would it?"
I looked in her eyes and could see she was panicking at what she had done.
"But the world prefers to believe a lie rather than hear the truth" I responded, "but in this case the truth only hurt you as you bad mouthed the man she was about to marry."
She glared at me, indignant that she had been caught out then burst into tears.
I continued, "The whole point about love is trust and I am sure that they talked about their past long before you enhanced it."
Pouting she turned and walked off for none of her romances lasted more than a week or two after her suitors found out they couldn't believe a word she said; I doubt she will have a job next week.
