High in the sky

While sat outside staring in the sky
At the shining stars and bashful moon

Maybe fun for some but not for me

The night was cold so got back inside

To warm myself by the open fire

With cup of cocoa Mum made for me

She told me of stars and planets names

Saturn, Venus, Mars and Mercury

I drank the cocoa it warmed me up

And crawled up in my mothers lap

She told me of Mars the god of war

And Venus was the goddess of love

That Mercury was the messenger

As I grew sleepy I asked my Mum

"What about the Moon then, what is that?"

"That's Earths naughty little baby"

"He's a lot like you and wants to play

Sometimes sleeps at night and sometimes day

And just like you he's my shining light

"cos I love to see him day and night"

By now I was dreamy, happy warm

I felt safe just where I loved to be

Cuddled close in Mummy's loving arms

I dreamt we both flew high in the sky

The cloudy day

I can remember as a child
When spring days were warm and mild
I'd run in fields so close to us
And lay me down on the grass

I looked up to the sky above
And this is what I really love
The clouds sped by at such a pace
Going to some other place

I liked it there now all alone
Just me and the insects' drone
Far from my bully brother
All alone needed no other

Until I see Billy from school
We often used to play the fool
So off we raced through the long grass
And watching clouds was in the past

How we need to refresh ourselves
Running free like forest elves
Wading in woodland streams
Living out our childish dreams

Mum will be cross I'm in the creek
Now seeing sun is near its peak
Must get home before our lunch
Brother's sure to give me a punch

I look back up in the sky again
The dark clouds now look like rain
Have to stay in this afternoon
School holidays end far too soon

A small endowment

I talk to the earth
Soon I shall know her in spades
She knows me for sure

I sing to the sea
I hear her sad sirens call
She whispers to me

I hear the wind's song
It tells our history so well
All over the world

Have I told my tale?
Will there be thunderous applause?
That I did no harm

Let me rest in peace
Let children see earth's beauty
A small endowment

For it has great worth
Please make sure you value it
It's worth more than gold

Farewell my day

Farewell my Day
What ravishing sky
Brilliant orange
Of Sun's sad goodbye
Sinking in the sea
As day's page is turned over

Night's sharp tooth sinks in
No mirror of daytime
But dark creature that roams
Who brushes against me
Spooning like a cheap lover

Time slows, mind weighed down
Cementing the hours
'Til Sun vents his fury
Stops this dark torture
Lightening Night's dark cover

Colour my life

I love the clouds                                                        

Playing with this my mind                                        

Matching my mood                                                  

Telling stories                                                           

That none can hear

They're busy today                                                           

And scud across the sky                                        

Others don’t look

Such busy bees                                                        

But I watch them

Dark, dismal clouds

Stratus squats over us

Long faces now

As rain drizzles

On umbrellas

All have coats on

Wispy cirrus so high above

Gloves and scarves

As people freeze

But I still smile

It’s evening

The mackerel sky woos us

Who knows what comes

All clouds thrill me

And colour my life
