Dawn again

Dawn again as night dissolves from my mind

Gone the moths and fireflies from the window

As the sun grins at me from the horizon

Alright I am a bit sluggish today

As I shower and dress then light the fire

Some snow has been forecast for later

The fire smokes its flames a bit reluctant

Eventually it starts glowing with pride

As I hear a murmur from the bedroom

Who else but my heart's delight, my dear wife

Now expecting her wake up cup of tea

So I check what chores I must do today

While the water is boiling and dog stares

So let him out to sniff around outside

Take the tea to my wife still tucked in bed

Thinking of checking lawn mower's blades

She grins and says "Are you coming back in?"

Now just what blind fool would fail to do that?

I awake early

I awake early from my sleep
Summer sun has not risen yet
The air is still it whispers not
Even Moon has already set

Listen for twitter in the trees
Even the owls throw in the towel
It's magic just me by myself
Time for poet, verse and vowel

Horizon lightens as I stare
Prompting twitters from above
A wombat's grunt comes along
Cooing starts of Turtle dove

Now the breeze whispers quietly
Lest the humans wake far too soon
Then the Sun's rays light up the sky
As the early birds sing in tune

Hear the distant hum of traffic
As man scares the wild ones away
Now there's a rumble of a train
Horns are sounded...another day

I come in to find solitude
From mankind's crazy noisy way
There's nothing like nature's stillness
To lift me up to face the day

A day in the life of the Sun

The night slips silently away
We wait for the new day to dawn
Sun grinning on the horzon
Scintillating for a few seconds
Before leaping into the sky
Carrying hope for each of us

Then hiding behind dark rain clouds
Spilling water down, down on us
Dawdling with nonchalant purpose
Across the now drenched countryside
As though late for date somewhere
Like a mooching boy with stick in hand

The warm golden orb appears again
Flying high in the sky warming us
Flagrantly opening flowers petals
Unfurling leaves cheering us up
Making its way till the days end
Winking goodnight to one and all

Nature’s dawn

It is one of those days
awake early once again
I struggle to get up
It is barely dawn and it feels cold

Reluctantly I draw the curtains
and when I do I see
the trees swathed in a lifting fog
and silence all around

It was so beautiful it seemed as though
I had caught the day slowly revealing
her enticing secrets
with but me to observe her

I quickly dressed
and hurried from my door and
walked briskly to the village pond
as the cold misty morning lingered still.

My breath puffing clouds
as I carefully made my way
to the edge of the water
where the birds too paddled

Slowly I squatted down on my haunches
to be less conspicuous and quite still
scarcely breathed as I too
became at one with the scene.

As they searched for food they were
lenient with me and paid me little account
as scarcely a quack or a chirp told
of my presence on those still waters.

Brightening now as the sun struggled
to burn away the ponds shroud
I felt exhilarated that I was too
Part of nature’s dawn.
