My sister
How I miss the swings and slides
Of our happy childhood days
Now my life is all despair
Oh for those times without care
How did we exist before?
Homework, tests and such strict rules
Cough syrup with runny nose
Hand me downs of sister's clothes
First to bathroom, lucky me
Now she's banging on the door
"Wait I've got to do my hair"
She pinched my arm with a glare
How the years have passed since then
When she died my heart did break
Cool day for her funeral
Heavens open; rain does fall

When I was courting
We often used her front room
Just the two of us
There we might listen
To her classical music
And we would unwind
Amid sighs of joy
We'd listen to Ludwig's ninth
And other movements
At the slightest sound
I would control my ardour
Switch from bold to cold
Skeptical sister
Would then burst through the doorway
Grin on her young face
"Can I come in here?
It's boring out there with them
I've drink and cookies!"
No sword defeated
A great battle plan so well
As that kid sister

Em and me
I opened the old iron gate and it moaned
Then clanged with annoyance as I pulled it shut
As there was no pleasing it
It was because I was free
So I breathed in the cool air
Climbed the hill to the silo
In order to walk the fields
Kicking the stubble
And singing a song
Happy as could be
The wind blows climbing to the top of the hill
I can just see the sea over the horizon
I'll go there when I'm older
That is when I've finished school
Me and Em will run away
Worm our way out one dark night
Have to oil the hinges first
Be gone by first light
Off down to the coast
Happy as can be
Ma was not all that cross I'd run off that day
All she said was "Wondered when you would get back"
Em just grinned at me licking
Some cake mix from her fingers
So then she offered me some
I could see she'd been crying
She really thought I'd left home
I'd never do that
She's my sister
And will always be

Note: I am aware that licking cake mix bowls with eggs in is frowned upon but I was just recalling my own childhood memories of 70 years ago! The story is of course fictitious.

She touched me
I didn't notice her at first
Chatting with the crowd
But then she touched me on the arm
A sensuous ripple went through me
Like pins and needles
Looked in her eyes and was spellbound
Still in a trance, she then whispered
"Let's get out of here"
As we stood in the dark shadows
She took my hand, pulled me away
Fingers soft and warm
We walked unnoticed from the room
"Let's away from this rancid place"
While I was thinking
A miracle none saw us leave
We walked down the esplanade
The tide was now full
Sea water lapping close to shore
"Come tell, me who you are" I asked
"I'm Penny's sister"
"She ditched you, it's my turn now"
"How is it I never met you?"
"Interstate of course"
Warning bells now rang within me
"So you know all about me then?"
"All that I need to"
Her head on my shoulder laughing
