Summer comes early in Oz
It is springtime now in Australia
Koala bears grunt in Eucalypt trees
Blossom falls like confetti down
Ashes from burning off soon will end
Lest wildfires spread over our wide land
"Bring on summer" kids happily say
Whilst Ma clears shelves for bottling ripe fruit
We love the sun but still have a moan
As sun scorches everyone in town
As skin reddens; not beautiful brown
Faces glowing in the brazen sun
Kids all in tears now going back home
We start a sing-song in the packed car
Carpet covered in sand and rubbish
Ma says "Shall we stop for chips and fish?"
That received a quick round of applause
We spot right shop to fill all our needs
So in we go shedding sand and grit
Minus shoes on kids who'd come in too
All happy now on route fifty-two

Woke up early
Woke up early and it was already light
While I was shaking off effects of last night
Visitors came and lasted beyond their stay
Not that they knew it, but I'd had a long day
I looked outside to view our garden green
Wifey has the kids and all her chores unseen
Walks dog and tends each flower bed
Cooks like chef and pleases me; enough said?
She looks beautiful, sleeping peacefully now
I wonder if kiss on the lips she'd allow?
All at once she said these words "I'm not asleep
As I've checked on you now and then with a peep"
"I'd woke earlier, thought you'd left on the light
But the sun had beaten us by shining bright
So there's only one thing you can do for me
My dear, is go and get me that cup of tea"

Starry eyed
She was all starry eyed
Now twinkling down at me
Felt her heat as she passed
Radiating her love
As she orbited close to me
"You are my sun" she said
Circlng by my side
"You are my warmth" she went on
You are attracting me
Her eyes sparkled flirtatiously
Gravity pulled her down
She landed in my lap
Fitting like hand in glove
Our warmth was such she said
"Why don't you make love to me?"

My cool friend
Old Sun greets us with the lark
But prefer my friend in the dark
One who helps on passions days
Whose silvery light knows lovers ways
My cool friend does secrets keep
As on lovers trysts none peep
Our words whispered on nights breeze
Drift away, just us to please
For she alone sees us kiss
Oh Moon t'is day and you I miss
For Sun peeps up in the East
My lips have had such a feast
I've touched my love, she's touched me
Now away, lest others see
Sun is cross he glares at us
But we laugh at all his fuss

Unique riches
The tangerine ball that is the sun
Sinks slowly in the west once again
Her flames roasting us one more time
sure to return tomorrow
As beachgoers skin glowss pink and peels
And their toddlers tongues lick icecream cones
Ma with paper on head fancies trip
for Macca's fast food tonight
While I think of snowfields glistening white
No spiteful ants, flies, but cool silence
Telling me more setting me thinking
why do we import palm trees?
And why are we never satisfied?
We copy everything we create
For it's far better to be ourselves
not the plural of others

A day in the life of the Sun
The night slips silently away
We wait for the new day to dawn
Sun grinning on the horzon
Scintillating for a few seconds
Before leaping into the sky
Carrying hope for each of us
Then hiding behind dark rain clouds
Spilling water down, down on us
Dawdling with nonchalant purpose
Across the now drenched countryside
As though late for date somewhere
Like a mooching boy with stick in hand
The warm golden orb appears again
Flying high in the sky warming us
Flagrantly opening flowers petals
Unfurling leaves cheering us up
Making its way till the days end
Winking goodnight to one and all

She'd watch me
It was a beautiful morning
The sea was calm as the sun shone
Now rising from the distant sea
Like a bare breasted nubile maiden
And throwing light in my window
The ancient, teasing man that was me
Then as she crossed sky's mighty arc
She'd watch me as I spent my day
Travelling, working all crammed in
Even shining on my girlfriends face
She'd be there peeking from the clouds
I love them both but is that a sin?
She was my friend and warmed my heart
Better than her small friend the moon
Who deigned to visit in the dark of night
Sailing her chosen path and time
Coming, humming a mournful song
While sun winked in the now failing light

It's now a fine day
The rain has now ceased
Blue patches show their faces
Now smirking at me
Sun grins behind one
Like us peeking out of doors
And shines down on me
Smiles on our faces
Kids in the puddles do play
It's now a fine day

Sunrise
Flimsy traces of morning mist
Now fled unable to resist
The will of the new morning's sun
As is began the new day's run
Erupting from the distant east
At first glowing then sparkling bright
Shooing away the stars of night
Rising quickly to the sky above
Now dazzling eyes with her warm love
For us to enjoy her warm feast

Shimmering sands
It was boiling hot
An Australian summer
Not a crow in sight
Mad rush to car parks
T’was the holiday season
Tempers are rising
Some seeking shadows
Others casting their garments
Blind to sun’s fury
No ripples at sea
Beaches swarming with bathers
Shimmering sands
Now laughter erupts
Parents paint their children
Soothing sun lotion
High in their lookouts
Patrols sweep the horizon
For swimmers in trouble

Such a glorious morning
A wink through the window
Sun flirts with me again
Though my wife's in bed with me
I get up, one smiles the other groans
And pulls the covers over her head
As I feel the warm embrace
Of the new day dawning
What better love is this?
Than to woo me softly
Then when so enraptured
Wrap me with her passionate heat
To set the world singing again
Birds twittering, fluffy clouds dashing
Such a glorious morning
Lazy bones at last appears
Enticing still in her nightie
Grabs my hand lest I stray
Shakes an angry finger at the sun
Pulls me back inside the house
Laughing makes a cup of coffee
"You're mine" she says in warning

Hot day at Bondi beach
Dawn heralded a new day as a few gathered on the beach
The day of reckoning as temperatures soared
Hordes headed to the shore and prepared for battle
All day they stayed bodies strewn across the sands
Whether bronzed or pale they came to face the midday sun
Few took cover but braved it out face to face
With the glaring enemy shining strongly
Neither side gave in until the Sun set to
The guilty one was disappearing over the horizon
There was a hush as those witnesses left held sway
The sun had been a fierce combatant today
Some looked red in the face others just browned off
Gathered in the cool of evening came the celebrations
Scoffing drinks and hamburgers triumph in their eyes
Giving and receiving praise for their courage
And hearing tales of woe from their burnt allies
Others though now hid hid in shame for they were not participants
They had avoided the battlefield and escaped
Going to the hills to some safe sylvan bank
With a cool running stream...those pale weaklings

Where's my cup of tea?
Mid summer morning and the sun beams through the window.
"Wake up" it says with a warm kiss as I hide in bed.
My wife stretches by my side, yawning, poking me in the ribs.
Where's my cup of tea?" she asks teasing.
I crawl out of bed, find my slippers and stumble into the kitchen.
I would do anything for her.

Farewell my day
Farewell my Day
What ravishing sky
Brilliant orange
Of Sun's sad goodbye
Sinking in the sea
As day's page is turned over
Night's sharp tooth sinks in
No mirror of daytime
But dark creature that roams
Who brushes against me
Spooning like a cheap lover
Time slows, mind weighed down
Cementing the hours
'Til Sun vents his fury
Stops this dark torture
Lightening Night's dark cover

In Sun's warm light
Sun, you warm my body
But not so my
heart
You shine on me
But that’s not
enough
Where is she
gone?
Where does she
bask?
Why are you so
bright?
Yet you answer
not
When I stare at
you
Behind a cloud
you hide
With the truth in
shade
The wind does
tell
Of so many tales
Like him I do
rage
He whistles up a
storm
That clouds my
mind
With thunder's
shout
To make me think
Of many other things
As I stand alone
But I’ll not be
fooled
By nature's wiles
I will bring her back
From Hades grip
Unlike Orpheus
I have no lyre to
play
But will rescue
her
From that dark
realm
To bask yet again
In Sun's warm
light
In my loving arms
She’ll be
embraced
Forever and a day
