My secret affair

"How did you get on?" he asked

"She's married my dear fellow" I answered

"What difference does that make" he replied

(Three lines from Balzac;s short story, Domestic Peace)

...and so it was from that day on

I had a secret affair with her

A polite grin at first from me

And then her sweet smile in response

Meeting by chance at the town fair

Blushed when I pointed to a cafe

But in the end she did agree

So much more of her I did see

Eager to show me where she lived

Not long she took me home with her

Lead me around to show me all

'Til we both gave each that first kiss

That commenced our pure love affair

That lasted to the start of fall

We parted one day at the fair

...husband guessed; that was end of me

About Kathleen

What can I tell you?
About my Kathleen
I loved to touch her hands
How she'd get lost in abook
Her mind elsewhere
Now idea who she was
It was the same with letter
She'd rush to the mailbox
As though a lover had written
Yet I thought I was him

Just for the records, it's over
Finished, she gone, run off
"Going off to the shops" she said
Must be still there, it's dark now
While I am here sitting alone
Waiting for the phone to ring
Thinking about my life with her
The way that it has all panned out
Love and beauty are transient
They come into your life...then walk out

Although not new I found this poem of mine from a few years back so decided to give it an airing!

You lie to me

"You lie to me" she said, we lay in bed
I replied "Don't need to, I tell the truth"
"You're beautiful, I love your hair and eyes;
Your soft skin, what is the need for lies?"

At any other time she then would laugh
But now it was serious and not a game
She wept, "I know about the other one"
I saw you in town with your honey bun"

"Oh that was just an office girl my love
Think she works in finance or somewhere else
She got in the lift t'was small talk that's all
I went to the bank, she went up the mall"

I had lied to her, for that was quite true
Not with office girl but you know who
All this was years ago, I don't know why
She then shook her head and began to cry

Our eyes meet

The shops cash register went ping
I turned my head to glance that way
My eyes did meet the girl's at the till
Yes I knew her, her name was Jill

Used to be at school together
When young and free and I fell in love
With every girl that I did see
But not her, she didn't fancy me

Put my purchase on the counter
So she could scan it at the till
She glanced at me then said aloud
"Hey, I missed you" (There was no crowd)

I twisted round, we were alone
So spoke "Do you fancy a date?"
Her shining eyes and mine did meet
She turned and said "Must be discrete!"

So the wheel of fortune spun around
I did break all the rules for her
Did tread the road of infamy
Instead of honest monogamy

Our sighs though were not in the press
Though we met for more than a year
As winter came and snow flakes fell
She wept "It's over" that phrase from hell

Love and longing

I loved your green eyes and the way you flicked your hair
But you have left me now it just does not seem fair
Only to wake each morning to find you're not near
Knowing that my love, that have really gone I fear

I go for walks just like we always used to do
On the beach, in the hills and through the woodland too
You were a bird watcher they all still sing their song
But you my dear I have lost in the milling throng

How does one cope when your love leaves you all alone?
What doyou do when she doesn't answer her phone?
How does one's heart beat when there is just now hope left?
How can I cope at all when I am so bereft?

Love and longing are such a peculiar pair
I am so brokenhearted it seems so unfair
Each day I wake I know the choice that I must face
In having to find someone else to take your place

Dancing in the dark

But we were just dancing in the dark
Then you didn't want me any more
I cried my eyes out lest we should part
Please, please darling don't show me the door

You sit there and got nothing to say
That's fine let's just snuggle in the dark
Or take a stroll down town together
Even sit by the lake in the park

Please don't be grumpy my dearest love
How about we both cuddle in the flicks
That movie you want to see is on
You have always made the best of picks

See you're smiling, you going to move?
At last you have found your happy spark
What's that...you fancy Oscars night club?
So we'll be just dancing in the dark...

...Suits me baby

Sat by the fireside

Sat by the fireside
It's almost daylight
But the fire is out
Wish life had a map

I am drunk of course
No words can be said
Sometimes that's best
Just call me a sap

I just lost my wife
She walked out the door
Anywhere but here
First gave me a slap

Not about money
Or time at the bar
But catching me out
With girl on my lap

Forward a few years
In my tiny flat
Struggling to exist
Inside cheaters trap

Heards she has done well
Spacious house and babe
I can see you all
Giving a hands clap

Wilbur Woolf

Wilbur Woolf was a wily one
Was his nature said and done
Chose his lovers every one
Husbands at work, he had fun

Teasingly he won their trust
With loving words as beaux must
She stopped sweeping up the dust
Afternoons of unbridled lust

Sadly trysts came to an end
She had to dismiss her friend
Who, bunch of roses would then send
Hoping that would somehow amend

Unaware she was with child
Husband thought she was undefiled
She acted all meek and mild
Less a divorce case was filed

Wilber's wife could not refrain
In his face saw lines of strain
"Will! You've not done it again?
While he closed his ears in pain

Words used: Afternoons, Dust, Teasingly

Did I help?

I woke up this morning
So thank goodness for that
I checked all my emails
And fed Tinker my cat
Before you say a word
I didn't call him that
His former owner did
So thats the end to that

Ping! The computer went
Who else can be up now?
It's Clair who wants to meet
Perhaps to have some chow?
Must admit loved her once
Not so as to take vows
Was pretty I admit
But that's enough for now

Met her in park's garden
We walked with not much said
Then sat down on a bench
Damn! Wish we were in bed
Forgot how beaut she was
She told me of marriage dead
Held her hand, warm to touch
Words from her heart were bled

Did I help? 'Spose I did
Dried her tears from her face
She said "What shall I do?"
"I do need some space"
Told her to take a break
"Try it, It's no disgrace"
Nodding agreed with me
So moved into my place

Spaced out wife

I could cry, I've received this letter
She has such beautiful handwriting
Calligraphy much to be admired
So good it should be bound in a book

There were cracks of course in our affair
The dark side was that both did wrong
Joy her name, she filled my loving cup
How passionate our love, in her nook

I liked the way she flicked her red hair
As eager me undid her bra strap
And when time was up she'd tap my nose
Then say,"Time to go, you are a sook"

Most affairs are tinged with troubled times
She knew I was married, that was true
Hoped I'd be more than part time lover
When I said no, she gave me that look

I could cry read her letter once more
We have both been hurt, that is so true
But now my wife knows of the affair
Future liaisons she will not brook

Husband's away

Good morning day
What can I say?
Husband's away
My day to play

He was grumpy
Made me jumpy
Called me lumpy
Now I'm frumpy

Shouldn't bother
Got another
He's a mover
Perfect lover

Oh what a day
What can I say?
Husband's away
My day's okay!

A lover of mine

I shouldn't tell you this
But I just can't resist
It's about a lover of mine
She was a beauty so divine

Met her many years past
Knew our love wouldn't last
Still lusted for her and she saw
Smiled at me and I knew I'd score

Our eyes met, words were few
Was no doubt what we'd do
So talked of music and of art
Touched her face so affair did start

She lived way out of town
Didn't wear a nightgown
Stood there naked by the fireplace
And flicked raven hair from her face

Took her hand, kissed her nose
So pleased she wore no clothes
Laying there did what lovers must
Laughed and wept with our wicked lust

Affair lasted about two years
Finished of course in tears
Mine of course as I had tarried
Hers when she learned I was married

This girl named Rose

I met a girl named Rose
Who chose not to wear hose
I didn't mind one bit
Her bare brown legs
The glance she gave
Was heaven sent
Probably meant
That we would not behave
So I kissed her cute nose
Then right down to her toes

I loved this girl named Rose
She was the one I chose
On my lap she would sit
Head on my chest
Smile on her face
My heart beat fast
Hoped it would last
We'd ever be a pair
Winter came then she froze
That's how the story goes

Painting thoughts of infidelity

I loved her soft brown hands
Her eyes as she looked at me
A glimpse of faraway mountains
As she brought my coffee at three

Her bangles on each arm
Married not long ago
But her husband works far away
And that is where she yearns to go

Behind the counter smiles
Her eyes look down in case
Others may see her sad desire
Which now shows clearly on her face

Each day I visit there
To see these sad brown eyes
Why does this beauty yearn for me
How long before she ends her sighs?

I have to work up north
Building a bridge up there
Busy but still missed her sweet face
My Mona Lisa dream affair

Even I was surprised
To see her face now gone
I felt quite numb that she had left
Her eyes for me no longer shone

Coffee had a bitter taste
Sugar could not take away
Cursed with thoughts of that pretty girl
Painting thoughts of infidelity

Last dancing flames

The crackles had stopped
The last dancing flames
Slowly died away
Amy looked around
For paper or wood
Something flammable

She blew the embers
Lest the fire went out
She pushed the poker
Under the black coals
Raising them slightly
A smallest of glows

Sizzles turned to flames
Stone hearth looked cheerful
She heard shouts outside
The brass doorknob turned
He looked at the hearth
"Good lass, Amy love"

Their eyes met briefly
"Get us some drinks now"
"Yes sir, right away"
Curtsied, left the room
She grinned silently
No one knew just yet

I look out the window

I look out the window
The grass is still green
Greener I hope now
That she has left me
She's done a runner
Has broken all ties
Even snapped the chain
And left keys to the locks

So I cook my own meal
Recovering from shock
Will clearly take time
A shard of light shines
Through the window pane
Her slippery tongue
Will hurt me no more
As puss plays with my socks

Lost pearl

The wild winter winds are cold outside
Rain traces tears down the window pane
Dead leaves swirling in the courtyard
Point their fingers for I am to blame
For she has finally left me here

What a homecoming this is for me
House now shrouded in bleakest darkness
I walk though all the rooms in despair
Each precious moment now crams my brain
The error of my ways is now clear

It was spring when we met that first time
Beautiful the past days seem to be
My mind tries to block out each sad thought
For the affair with that other girl
Lost the richest pearl I held so dear

One good deed deserves another

"Be back late tonight"
Said Jim as he left the bed
"Grunt" was all she said

Jill was still tucked in
Sleeping, dreaming, that was all
He thought in the hall

But she knew his game
So phoned his best friend Peter
"Yes" He would meet her

Put a smile on her face
To pluck the fruit that was ripe
And fix leaking pipe

Sally office girl
Jim dallied with her a while
To see her winsome smile

They had eyed before
So good time was had by all
Calm before the fall

Before wife's goodbye
Hubby gets home all washed up
Pete's tools all packed up

Smiling, drinking tea
Pete gets up to greet his friend
Jim went round the bend

Jill's face innocent
Moans at doing all the work
While he's time to shirk

Turns her back that night
But what really makes him ill
He too has had his fill

The house by the river

Laurel was her name
Lived in the tumbledown house
Down by the river

Don't know why I smiled
That day in the marketplace
Her deep dark eyes spoke

Of a loneliness
A pause before she smiled back
And that was the start

We talked for a while
Then argued about a date
But was invited home

Her son lived with her
Saw his father at weekends
That's when she saw me

She was generous
But as poor as church mouse
I made her happy

And then she told me
They fought over custody
As I kissed her neck

Away interstate
I didn't see her for weeks
Then found she had gone

Her house deserted
The walls creaked but made no sense
But had a sad look

I sat out the back
The river told me nothing
But it never does

A sweet song of love

I heard you breathing
Such soft gentle whispering
Like sweet kisses blown
In nights darkness
Just for me alone

I touched you gently
Barely rousing from your dream
You stirred with pleasure
And hummed to me
A sweet song of love

Wrapped up together
Your warm flesh now welcomed me
As we became one
T'was then you spoke
"Don't ever leave me"

By morn you were gone
You husband returned today
Just how long to wait
Until next time
Our dangerous game
