Sing me a song

Sing me a song without words my love
Your sweet voice just like a peaceful dove
Whose plaintive cooing still lingers on
In love with you I've fallen headlong

I was struck dumb when I saw you first
My desire was like unquenchable thirst
With that primal urge to make you mine
Your lips are much like forbidden wine

Sweet the nightingale's song with its trills
As the sun sinks down over the hills
And hear the noise of my poor heart's beat
So joyful since by chance we did meet

My protestations seem so banal
Romance is beyond all rationale
It's my only means to prove my love
Surely we'll both fit like hand in glove

  4. Delightful as always.

(Now tell me true, is the nightingale's song really so beautiful? Or do our magpies and currawongs outdo it?)

    1. There are two kind of nightingales... the one we have up here is mostly quite loud...

  12. Indeed sometimes romance is beyond rationale. You just must follow where your heart leads.

  15. This is lovely. With the lightest touch of whimsy and old world charm, it has a wonderful romantic quality that is so ... h-m-m-m ... (I think I'm searching for a word we don't hear much anymore) ... "gallant".

However much one wants to be rational matters of the heart will surely veto the 'protestations'. One cannot win when emotions take over! Very true Robin!
