Glad we had this talk

Can I talk to you?
About my life these days
Of his fiery temper
Do you see my black eyes

What more can I add?
Little deals to stay alive
The broken window frame
That he'll never repair

Shall I sing a song to him?
Don't ever come back to me
He'll never give me a chance
This is how I exist now

I hate to see storm clouds
As they billow overhead
Temperature is rising
With his thunderous call

He is skilled at his craft
And is such a weak man
He will crush and break me
For all of his mistakes

Glad we had this talk
My knight in shining armour
If only you were real
You could have saved my life

  1. This is so chilling. Why men exhibit thei weakness in such a chilling way. Fists can never solve anything...

  2. I agree, Bjorn. Such a sad poem - this situation is all too common.

  6. Very powerful. Strong, very strong...and then the very sad ending -- of both the poem and her life. If only....

  8. Very strong poem, oldegg! How anyone could justify this kind of treatment befuddles me.

  10. Sometimes whilst waiting for our knight in shining armour we slip further and further away..perhaps we have to don that armour ourselves and ride away...thoughtful write Old Egg

  11. I work with women in situations like this, Robin, and the line, "Little deals to stay alive" is so incredibly poignant and accurate. Wow. Where outsiders think they stay as entirely passive victims, there is often actually bravery and calculated resistance going on. Thank you for this awareness.

  12. I will echo Bjorn on this. I'd like to feel sorry for her, but feeling so will not make any difference... sigh..

  14. This is along the lines of my poem about captivity the other day - the sad fact that abused women are often so beaten down they cant find a way to escape. You have captured her state to perfection.

  15. The contrast between the knight, a man of honor and true strength, and the abuser, the weak man, is striking.

  16. Such a sad realistic poem....a frightening thing to go through as many women can attest to....it is a very hard cycle to break and be free from as you write brilliantly..."Little deals to stay alive" .

  17. Ugh...an ugly situation and deplorable cycle that too many have experienced--you have written about it adeptly, OE.

  18. Her comfort is only her imagination which is not acceptable, Robin. She needs to stay away and find some help. No one deserves this kind of abuse.

  19. There is too little help for so many. Well penned.

  20. Powerhouse of a poem .... perhaps even more powerful given your penchant for wonderful romanticism ...

  21. Such an important subject.. so many people unable to stand up to such brutality. Fantastic that you choose to write about it.

  22. Unfortunately, one has to rescue oneself from these situations, and it's too tall an order for many.

  23. ouch. and there are no knights in armor or out. we have to save ourselves and each other.

  25. A wishful thinking often may indicates a damsel in distress. There are emotional distractions at all times. It is how one faces up to it that will determine the right outcome!

  26. Old Egg,

A vivid story, of a world-wide issue. Sadly, repetition of the violence is assurred, if the victim stays; most seem to prefer to wait, in some kind of hope, for an ending...

  28. The world as seen as now evolving ...what are we to do about it? Cave man ...
sits in our genes... yet our hearts and mind seem not to balance it. WTF!

  29. Robin this is so well and too accurately told. It is a sad world where women are still not safe and they fear for their lives and the lives of their children.

  30. Yes, a true hero is needed for all those abused.
