My Glorious Spring

Youth misspent of course
But what an education
A botanist I

Until I met you
It was then that I blossomed
My glorious Spring

Were you in my life?
All my sweet scented flowers
Basking in sunshine

Poppy was bubbly
Heather wanted so much more
did make Rose blush

Iris was so tall
Lily stayed at my pad
I loved Jasmines scent

Fleur was so petite
You'd say I was in Clover
Posy a puzzle

Daisy chained me up
Young Ivy did cling to me
Petal shook me off

Those times now long past
Sadly I've faded not they
For I walk alone

  2. Daisy sounds like a handful...are you sure you have faded? Memories and wishes and thoughts mean we are never really alone..

  4. Ah, those 'flower' girls quickly lose their blooms & fade as time goes on, it seems. Seems that each had her season though, which while it lasted was bright and beautiful in its own way. The last stanza is sad though....I hope there will yet be a new flower or two on the path!

  5. Sounds like you found a lovely flower bed..each delicate bloom with a scent of her own. Perhaps, a stroll in the garden will bring new delights :)

  6. Hahaha. I wonder if you had more fun with this poem or with those early days of flower collecting? Really, though, the fade is all too real in contrast with youth.

  7. I love this botanist's education and how you used each flower to convey a different idea or feeling.

  11. I love the listing of your flower companions, your making Rose blush.....loved this! Such a wonderful blossoming at the beginning of the poem, and a poignant reminder at its close that now you walk alone. Sigh.

  12. Old Egg,

Quite a bouquet of beauties in your life at one point...However, they have left those memories to treasure...and to recall.
Perhaps a new beauty might blossom somewhere:)

  15. Nice how you incorporated all these flowers. But, don't walk alone. They still make good company. Lovely poem!

  17. Beautiful play of flowers to emotions. Sadly human kind do fade just as much as the flowers! Contrary to the norm the flowers stay! Good paradox outlined oldegg!

  19. What a fun play with flowers/girls's names....I can't stop to be surprised by variety of names....every time I meet a student - a new unusual name for me, not speaking about last names.....fun!

What lovely lines! I love the phrasing. The inclusion of all the flower names makes this a fun read.

  23. Yes, the summer romances add up over the years.

  24. This is beautiful and vivid; builds up a happy, summery vibe symbolic of a blossoming youth, but ends on a tone of resignation. Quite a depiction of the "garden of life".
