What an extraordinary primate
Is man that adapts to any climate
Pity wild life struggling in his wake
As he mines and pollutes this earth so fair
For transitory riches is all he cares
We bask in sunshine swim the ocean's seas
Not cognisant of our fatal disease
Of destroying all we touch and pollute
Let's shoot an elephant lets snare a bear
Let's burn fossil fuels see how far we dare
Let's spill oil on Australia's Barrier reef
Let's melt the polar bears Arctic fief
Look how much my bank balance has grown
Amazon's rain forest is burning now
Sure a tax deduction they will allow
2. Amazonian forest burning

WOW! What fine images and excellent satire! Whew! From the wonderful first stanza to the very end, this is spare, bouncy, horrific, excellent.
ReplyDeleteYes, what Susan said. Alas, I fear we will not remain immune forever. (A fact which will distress only ourselves and perhaps be a blessing to other life forms.)
ReplyDeleteExcellent. You nailed it. So sad, humans' wanton disregard for anything but money.
ReplyDeletereeks of sarcasm, that is very well deserved; we need to be reminded of our environmental sins
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday Robin

This one comes from the belly - as much as we try i think the animals will inherit the Earth once we have done our damage and left them once again in peace
ReplyDeleteGreat job with this. Stretching out there with a political statement!
ReplyDeleteThe truth hurts...this is a truth that needs to be yelled from the rooftops...brave and wise writing Robin! :-)
ReplyDeleteNot only a great message here, but I admire your structure of repeating, "let's." Very effective. Nice job.
ReplyDeleteThis is really an amazing poem and I like this voice of your muse. The pics really compliment your verses.

They don't really care how much they destroy and plunder and take advantage of what the laws allow. Lucky for humanity not many are like them. Thoughtful take Robin!

Powerful and real!
ReplyDeleteCertainly a harsh look at the not so pretty side of humanity and what we can do... although, many fight for good and do care. We can only hope with education and a new generation things will change. I admire your rhyming - it is not easy to do.
ReplyDeleteAt leat there are the voices of poets, environmentalists and thinking humans right throughout the world that are clamouring louder and louder for change, Robin. Let us hope that the powers that be, effect the change that is the only possible way to save our planet.
