I was so restless I could not sleep So I arose Dressed and took a walk Still a dark night All was quiet Morning yet to come But light to see by My friend was there Moon skipped in and out Of fluffy clouds Follows me walk Owl hooted with laughter Playing with me My face freshened As the wind whispered Secrets untold Except to me Then there was a howl Wild dog baying At my approach How I love the scent Of the night air Nature's secret Night my companion How I love her She's my true friend Image found at www.motherscircle.net
I hope she is a good friend..sometimes we all need a companion through the darkness..i liked the magic in this piece..the sense of adventure and taking in the noises and animals - curiously delicious!
this is so reflective of my walks in the evening when the moon also watches me. i too, am retired and making every moment and evening count as if my last strolling in this mundane experience.
It's perhaps a fulfillment to be strolling in peaceful surroundings in the cool of the night. This is not an everyday happening! True enough oldegg! Wonderful lines!
I was guessing who is your friend....moon, the owl, wind, a dog,...a night you called...but feels like all above. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of your poem.
Robin, I have not "seen" you in quite a while. So glad to know your heart is still in the writing. Night is a friend, yes, and I love how she whispers her "secrets untold/except to me," a real gift. Thanks! Amy
Riveting piece, Robin. Enjoyed the glory of the night ...all with a message of unity/discord..., very much part of nature. The laughing owl robbed my heart...
how mystical is that! in my world, it was the mountains and i loved to climb one to escape family drama to dream away on long, hot humid days back in the islands!!!
I feel a longing for the night when I read you lines.. Still I see very little of it in the Swedish summer filled with daylight...
ReplyDeleteThe night is often a soothing companion..a time of true reflection.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully executed :D
Night as the only companion seems so very peaceful...

Yes, night is always a good friend, I think. One can always depend on her to share whatever gifts she has!

A very-well deserved moment, Robin. To walk through nature with your ever reliable friend guiding your way.
ReplyDeleteI have often taken those night walks it clears the head as you take in the sounds of darkness. I liked how the moon skipped in and out.
ReplyDeleteI love "night my companion." We have both been moon-gazing this week, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI love how you describe the night air as Nature's secret. That is so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing to sit or walk under the night sky and take in nature through all our senses...beautifully penned Robin!
ReplyDeleteI love the night. You describe it so wonderfully.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice little journey here. It's almost dream-like... and you could say never happened. Maybe you dreamed the whole thing?
