A creature of the night

Darkness is now my friend
I am a creature of the night
Life's mysteries are more beautiful
Than the bright garish day
For then sad tears are hidden
Seductive secrets are whispered
Lit only by the flirtatious moon
With the teasing twinkling stars
So many untold stories speak
On the cool midnight breeze
I love her nocturnal ways
Wrapping me in her embrace
I'm here but you may not see me
Then where are you? You ask
Even if I am not here, I was once
I'm the rustle in the leaves
Or the creak in that old door
The sad lonely sigh of the wind
And the beat of your lonely heart
When you remember who I was

  1. This is so beautiful.. touched my heart. Loved these lines:

I'm here but you may not see me
Then where are you? You ask
Even if I am not here, I was once
I'm the rustle in the leaves

Is it possible that the one we love is present in the form of Nature? Reminding us that we are never alone.. and shall be united once again. Beautifully executed :D

  7. Haunting poem. I believe that such truths are inescapable, and quite often comforting. Need the old memories that live at night have to carry pain?

  12. What a wistful and thoughtful poem - we are always connected to those we love..no matter where they may be...perhaps 'we' know each other so well we are in each others souls...

  17. Old Egg,

Your poem has set the perfect circumstances within which it is possible to connect with those silent voices of the invisible night visitors...Every sound is powerful and with a meaning attached...
