So up I soared
Will retire soon
Or so I tell myself
Before I go completely mad
It was Friday
Drafting a contract
Listening to chatter of keypad
That was Betty
Typing dutifully
To some firm in Hyderabad
Then a sharp gust
Blew into the room
Took all my notes which was so sad
Was stunned at first
To see them fly off
Then pleased; I was really quite glad
Stood on my feet
Waved Betty Goodbye!
Jumped out the window from launch pad
So up I soared
Fetching the pieces
Of paper and files like a young lad
Then down I went
Down ever so fast
I got them all; clever Granddad!
Mission all done
So swooped up again
Into office, that wasn't half bad!
Just for a dare
I kissed sweet Betty
"Your last day sir; I am so sad!"

We all saw different things in that image, recalled different turning points in our lives, and yours was cinematographic, Robin. I especially like the way you set the scene and introduced Betty:
ReplyDelete‘It was Friday

That was Betty

To some firm in Hyderabad’.
I love the moment our hero takes flight! So cool.
ReplyDeleteI love this superhero of a worker! I really like how you set the scene of soaring and fetching those pieces of paper.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great way to retire in style.
ReplyDeleteWhat an exit! Endings are best on wings.
ReplyDeleteI love how the image was seen so differently by each of us. I agree with Magaly, endings are best on wings.
ReplyDeleteThis prose poem was a lighthearted story. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely loved this, Robin!❤️ This part in particular made me smile;
ReplyDelete"It was Friday

I have been to Hyderabad so it brought back memories!❤️
What a lighthearted romp. Love it!
ReplyDeleteFun poem to read, Robin. Well set scene, and great twist at the end.
