I am old and my bones ache
I am old and my bones ache
As a child I saw the dark
By growing up in wartime
Everyone had so little
Except those that stole and cheated
But then it seemed much better
I could run around quite free
Couldn't afford very much
But it all looked good to me
But not those that stole and cheated
We thought we were quite well off
Home, food and saving money
Bought a car and house as well
All on the never never
But not those that stole and cheated
Changed my job a few times
Travelled the whole wide world
Wars and poverty still rife
Our world dying a slow death
Thanks to those that stole and cheated

A very thought provoking poem , we are killing our planet ourselves.
ReplyDeleteThis is deeply poignant and thought-provoking, Robin!
ReplyDeleteYes indeed. We steal and cheat and expect to get away with it. this earth is witness that we do not.
ReplyDeleteThe combination of poem and photo make a strong statement, Robin. Those who steal and cheat now are in the very halls of power............sigh. I remember simpler times with nostalgia.
ReplyDeleteTreasures are not in material things. We in the west all expect and have too much. When I was living in the third world my 'maid'was overjoyed at her first visit to a supermarket and asked if she could wheel the trolley so she could feel like a rich woman. She derived so much pleasure from things we all take for granted. She taught me a lot and it still remains with me today.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered why so many people feel that they need so much, and so desperately that they are willing to break everything else in order to get it... I can't quite understand how their minds work.
