The whisper of the trees

The whisper of the trees
The babbling of the brook
Susurration of the wind
The roar of the seas surf
The thunder in the skies
Are the sounds of nature at work

The howling of the wolves
Chattering of monkeys
The hoot of the wise owl
The splash of the dolphin
The laughters of children
Are the sounds that we are alive

The oil spills in the ocean
Trash with nowhere to go
The melting of ice caps
Hunger on a rich Earth
Pollution everywhere
All signs we are a failed species

  2. Failed, indeed. A failure much more starkly clear, by the fullness of life in the opening verses.

  4. A very destructive species which has dismantled all the safeguards to keep us continuing in reasonable harmony with the planet.

  5. Such beautiful word pictures ... until the last stanza which is hit-in-the-face reality!

  6. Yes, i believe the human experiment has failed. Too many indulging their lower natures than their higher ones. Painful lessons to learn.

  11. This hit me particularly hard at oil spill. SF had white sands 30 years ago, before the oil spill.

In a nutshell how the human race is bring itself into disrepute abusing privileges and blessings accorded by nature. Very true Robin!

  13. Yes, we are a failed species. Nature has not failed us....but we have failed nature & are a danger to the natural world.

  14. Ah yes, "Failed species"-- Spot on! Well said...we have destroyed the equilibrium and the planet’s system!! Unless every single one of us learn to conserve and be minimal, we will not be able to restore the planet.
    Beautifully penned, Robin!

  15. Yes, we are a 'failed species', sad to say. I love the way this poem was constructed, leading up to the ending.
