On that lonely beach

Ah! Another great day
I miss our walks on the beach
You, me, paddle, shells

Now and then I go
It’s not the same without you
But you are still there

You ran off somewhere
For years you refused to go
With the big cruel sea

Happy to be here
So you fought like a demon
Blood, sweat and needles

You left me alone
To watch the tides come and go
On that lonely beach

  1. "But you are still here"--after such a struggle to live, I am not surprised that she is still there. Some blessings it is hard to count; there is no substiitute for presence and companionship.

  4. Very sad. It must be so hard to go on walking on those lonely beaches.
    Well written.

  5. I resonate so strongly with this poem. One goes back to the beloved places, but the absence of the loved one is so strong. I love that she fought so hard to stay.

  6. Our loved ones are always with us, just not in the way we would prefer. Life is cruel that way. But at least we have memories and imagination.

  7. Sad that you are alone...I wish it were otherwise for your sake. They say it gets easier as time moves on ...it washes away the pain a little..Chin up !

  8. I remember a day where I was skipping shells and stones across the ocean's surface waiting for someone to come and skip them with me. Of course this was in a dream. Then again, we all need someone to spend out time with now and again. Nobody truly enjoys being alone on a beautiful beach.
