I dream of you
Of days long past
I’d touch your
face
Your eyes
downcast
I'd kissed your
lips
You looked away
My heart was sad
I knew you’d
stray
You said goodbye
I‘d not give up
There was for me
No loving cup
Years have passed
Times cruel wand
Your eyes I see
I’m no less fond
I know you’re
there
But cannot see
Though loves
sweet call
Still beckons me

This poem points to an earlier love, one you never got to spend years with, I think. It would be neat--in a way--to see the valentines we might send to those who never saw us, who never gave us a chance. Some I remember with a similar fondness. But it's all mystery, no memory accompanies it.
ReplyDeleteThis holds for me, a turning away...expressed well in the lines of eyes downcast...the image is intriguing as well!
ReplyDeleteSad to have love rejected. But it happens. You capture the yearning mood excellently.
ReplyDeleteYou bring that memory into the light of day so clearly I can see her downcast eyes. Beautiful and sad.
ReplyDeleteSome loves are unforgettable, and the memories live forever...
ReplyDeleteLove lost is sometimes the most poignant because we never had a chance to see it chipped away by the little hurts and disappointments of life.
ReplyDelete"I know you're there"...love is all about this...beautiful
ReplyDeleteThis seems to me the epitome of romanticism, sweetly expressed.
ReplyDeleteAh yes pining away for one who doesn't want us back.
ReplyDeleteVery sad & poignant ~ Some are meant not stay together ~

The memories linger on! Love is such that emotions will rein supreme against physical presence! Great lines oldegg!

This swings like the forlorn soul left in the wake of lost love...
ReplyDeleteAhhh unrequited love. Whether we held it for a moment or it eluded us entirely - it haunts us.
ReplyDeleteI felt your longing. Lovely poem though quite sad.
ReplyDeletethe lost love.. memories that never fade..
