Have I been dreaming?
I woke to an empty bed
Now it seems so big
I reach out, you’ve gone
I hear the rain dance for me
Somebody loves me
Skies are grey today
Everybody’s in a rush
But I’m a slowcoach
The world’s had a wash
There is no trace of you left
Except in my heart
Have I been dreaming?
I woke to an empty bed
Now the world’s so big

that feeling is so familiar to me... but it's nice to wake up in a cozy bed when the rain is falling and everyone else is in a hurry.
ReplyDeletenot too bad to be a slowcoach and enjoy unhurried life but emptiness hurts..... nice lines :)
ReplyDeleteTerrific feeling to this one and the repetitive lines and form are delicious :)
ReplyDeleteYou suffered from daylight savings too, it seams :-)
ReplyDeleteoh that is sad... and makes you feel the rain even more...
ReplyDeletepangs of separation are indeed difficult to stomach.
ReplyDeleteSad. Hard to sleep alone when you have spent most of your life sharing a bed with another. I suppose it is part of life...and a painful part.
ReplyDeleteSorry I deleted your comment on my blog in error...tsk ...and it was a nice one too ! Thanks anyway.
Such dreams bring lost forgotten memories back :(
ReplyDeleteThis is very poignant, a poem that makes the reader feel. I think both the bed and the world feels so big when missing one who is gone.
ReplyDeleteSo sad in the ending ~ I specially like the rain dance ~
ReplyDeleteOne can feel lost in that bed of dreams..but, the sound of rain can be calming..
ReplyDeleteThe emptiness of a bed that was not always so can be very acute. You have conveyed this well. I like how slightly the last stanza changes from the first, adding more poignancy to your words.
ReplyDeleteTears. You touched my heart. I too am a slow coach enjoying the dance of the rain.
ReplyDeleteHow we feel the space when someone close moving, leaving....it feels as a drama...Love the rain as fulfilling the emptiness...
ReplyDeleteAmazing how the world seems big and desolate in loneliness.. Maybe stay a little longer in those dreams is what's needed.
ReplyDeleteThis is very moving - the bed, the world, so big, with the loved one gone.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the whole poem, and the second to last stanza was breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteWell... That was perfect!

aw, there's so much feeling embedded into these words. i know, all to well, how the world seems when it's too big, how hollow a bed is alone.

I like this. Very sentimental thoughts. The world is big when we've been left behind. Good poem!
ReplyDeleteA lonely poem, so well written.
ReplyDeletesuch despair having to wake up to loneliness. i love it!
ReplyDeleteLoneliness can be so painful...that last line really captures that.
ReplyDeleteA poignant beautiful poem.
