I ponder the truth

Early morning's sun saturates the plain
As the new day's birth is welcomed by all
Silky clouds not far away promise rain
I hear music of bird song in the air
And watch my sweet wife brush her golden hair

The scene hides the truth of the days intent
'Ere long peace is broken by thunder's clap
Clouds shadows fall, Sun's smile hides away
Birds quieten their song a rumble veils all
My wife clinks dishes and "Breakfast" she calls

I ponder the truth of creations strange plan
As a sharp flash of lightning fills the sky
She sits down at table, pours my coffee
Whilst out there in the rain are our two cars
Women are from Venus and men from Mars

  1. You paint the scene of creation vividly. With the changing elements, your wife preparing for the day...even Venus and Mars got featured. (Perhaps that's another tale?)πŸ˜‰

  2. Rain or shine, breakfast must still be had!! On earth as on Mars and Venus.

  4. From a lovely day to a storm; from domesticity to philosophy; you have covered a wide range here!

  5. Nature is a very mysterious lady, isn't she? But we, humans, are lucky. And when we get luckiest, we find our other halves to dance in balance with.

  6. Even with storms, it sounds like a cosy scene.

  9. I think there are few things as exciting and hypnotic as a proper storm, so long as you're somewhere dry and safe.

  10. I like the juxtaposition of domestic scene and outer storm, philosophy and making breakfast, woman and man.

  11. Oh that's perfect contrast... a good day for a long breakfast with that storm raging outside.

  16. I like the way the poem shifts from the promise of rain to the clap of thunder and flash of lightning, Robin, and wonder if this is pathetic fallacy, a reflection of domestic ups and downs.

  17. I hope no storm was brewing in your home that time, Robin. :)

  18. "The scene hides the truth of the days intent" Lovely personification! And the planets still live on despite the storm, haha!

  22. You have sketched this domestic scene wonderfully and pinned it against the far more sweeping contemplation of creation's plan. Awesome juxtaposition in this, nicely rendered, piece.

  23. Thank you everybody for your comments. The Venus and Mars reference juxtaposes the man and the woman and how they react to the change in the weather. She from Venus, calm, safe inside, coping as can. He from Mars feels he must do something and he is restless; should he get the cars under cover, see to the stock or do anything to combat the enemy!?

  28. The image of two cars in the rain sticks with me. How like those two cars are many human couples!
