Sadness fills my heart

Sadness fills my heart
As things change around me
I'm yesterday's man

I can still see well
But not what others now can
Future's not for me

What joy in the wild?
When birds and animals flee
Forests disappear

I love the wild surf
But plastic is washed on shore
And fish are long gone

The coral reef bleaches
Makes way for bulk carriers
Ugly commerce wins

Sand blows in my eyes
Rivers find not the ocean
My tears are no help

I'm yesterday's man
As things change around me
Sadness fills my heart

  1. Today--especially when it comes to the environment and the things most people value--shows an ugly sight, a heartbreaking view of even more terrible things to come. I hope we can make it better. The young do not deserve what we are leaving behind.

  2. Me, too, kiddo. We are not leaving the world a better place than we found it. So much damage in such a short time.

  4. A beautifully written plaint, worthy of the transition we find ourselves in.

The best way to change should be self imposed to avoid pressure or conflicts arising. But change prompted by corporate entities to satisfy their greedy instinct is a disaster! Rightly so Robin!

  8. Sometimes I think we are all 'yesterday's men' as the world changes in such an ugly way around us. A deep sadness fills my heart too; and I don't know if the sun will shine again.

  9. "I am yesterday's man" I can relate to that greatly. This holds so much sadness, but it is true to the heart and beautiful!

  10. I'm the same way. I feel as though I were born a couple of centuries too late!

  12. You know with a little thought and no inconvenience this is completely unnecessary.
