It was not Sue

Sue and I use to meet
By the old withered tree
I held her hand
And kissed her cheek
First love
For her
And me

Sadly it did not last
Her curls no longer mine
She came no more
Our trysting place
Alone
I cried
Forlorn

Yes, there were other girls
But curls they had but few
I held them tight
And snuggled up
Sadly
It was
Not Sue

  1. What a neatly stitched tale of yearning....i suppose we all have a 'Sue'...then nobody quite matches up after...but maybe that's why they are so special?

  2. John, I loved it! Fun to hold a memory of so special a girl at your "trysting place".

  3. This is a sweet little tale. We always remember our first love.

  4. That first (?) love almost seems perfect - curls or something else.

  5. How one really yearns for the wonderful feel of first love! Others that come after are bland and not comparable to the electrifying feel! Wonderful nostalgia old egg!

  6. I'm starting to worry about the number of girls who have passed through your arms, Old Egg. You must be exhausted.

  11. A fun rhyme that I take more seriously than surface may suggest, but then, I used to be called Sue.

  13. I agree, Oldegg. Even as they fade away in the background, first loves hold a special place in our memories.

  14. Aw. I wonder if Sue would write something similar. First loves are truly special. You write so well about yours.

    1. Hello Gillena, thanks for your comment. The form just popped out of my head but I don't claim it's invention as I am sure I have seen it before somewhere. The tryptich of two syllable lines at the end of each verse was to emphasise the sadness felt.
