How to express love
When the flames of desire burn
Just what are the rules?
A hard lot to bear
For youth has no discernment
A new game to learn
Fear of failure is
The enemy of success
Joy turns to ashes
Sometimes it’s simple
A posy of bright flowers
and selfless warm words
Identify the goal
Polarize her in your mind
In your spring of life

I saw far more ashes than joy!
ReplyDeleteRomance can obviously start young...although granted it can be quite a tactical affair ;)
ReplyDeleteExcellent. We followed where the words led us, and your poem is achingly true.
ReplyDelete"Fear of failure is the enemy of success." Amen, OE, and not just in love.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard, new lessons to be learned, makes for a life of success...
ReplyDeletenice use of words turning them into a lighter expressiion of youthful romantic pursuit. ;-) Randy
ReplyDeleteA simple posy is a good start toward putting spring in romance.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that first stanza, what are the rules? And joy does turn to ashes real fast.
ReplyDeleteBut if there were rules, then it would be easy! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd say this is pretty good advice. Of course, we all have to stumble through it on our own, don't we?
ReplyDeleteBeautifully done with the words, Old Egg. Nice!
