Take me back to the boundless sea
I'll find you there in my memory
How we walked on those sandy shores
To mournful sound of seagulls caws
How I hunger for your lips again
Being with you in sun or rain
As I follow paths we once trod
Others may think this is quite odd
Powerful wind blows in my face
How I miss this our special place
Our days together were so brief
Salty breeze blows away my grief
What madness has urged me back
The surfs sad shout, the washed up wrack
Wild winds blow up the foamy spume
Whose gentle kiss relieves my gloom

The paths we walked... oh the memories! Nicely written Robin!
ReplyDeleteA polished and heartfelt poem Old Egg.. could really feel the senses of loss and longing
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!!💖 Especially this; "What madness has urged me back".. is such an emotive phrase!💖
ReplyDeleteI can feel the ache in your words...so deeply moving.
ReplyDeleteI feel the yearning here! The reliving of what once was, and the kiss of the wind definitely is pale in the face of such beautiful memories.
ReplyDeleteI really love how you carry us along in this lament with the rhythm and the rhyme!
ReplyDeleteI think it is a form of madness to keep revisiting What Might Have Been, or What Was and Can Never Be Again. But we all do it to a certain degree, don't we?
ReplyDeleteI can feel the remembering, and love "Salty breeze blows away my grief."
ReplyDeleteLuv that you rhymed your quatrains. Happy Sunday Robin
ReplyDeleteMuch💖love
I like the idea of her sending a kiss in the sea foam.
ReplyDeleteWhen measuring days, it seems they are all brief, too brief.
ReplyDeleteAnother moving love poem, Robin.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful melancholy... why do we seek out the pain like this?
ReplyDeleteA pensive one this time!
ReplyDeleteI like this one so much. It is a song of grief and consolation. Very sweet.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a poignant memory. Time to leave those painful memories behind. :)
ReplyDeleteOur days together were so brief
ReplyDeleteSalty breeze blows away my grief
Short spells are the ones mostly remembered. Fleetingly but they linger on!

Beautifully drawn with a mesmerizing cadence. You've imbued this piece with a 'ballad-esque' vibe, that works so wonderfully, here.
ReplyDeleteHow sad the memories, the yearning - I am glad you found consolation.

Enjoyed the rhythm in this one...the rhyming couplets work well. You have captured the rolling waves. Reminds me of the Masefield poem. Well done!
ReplyDeletePalpable longing in this one, Robin. Beautiful, descriptive piece.
ReplyDeleteI think it would just make me gloomier.
ReplyDeleteAh, delightfully romantic melancholy. (I guess we've all been there, one way or another. Yes, the sea can both emphasise and comfort the misery.)
