I met her in winter

I met her in winter
Her eyes were as green as a spring day
And my heart leapt at the sight of her

Wrapped up in her warm coat
I didn't know that she had seen me
She had for she told me later on

I'd dreamt of her that night
So I watched out for her the next day
Shyly she smiled as I waved to her

So we arranged a date
Holding her hand in the cinema
Afterwards I walked her to her home

I saw her often then
Was invited in to meet the parents
Then were allowed to use the front room

We cuddled each other
In front of the warm open fireplace
Together we hardly needed it

Then a knock on the door
Her young sister now came to join us
"It's boring out there with them" she said

I wonder even now
After our fifty years of marriage
Whether what she said was really true

  5. I was about to quote the bit Samyuktha quoted above. It's just so warming and relatable and smile-inducing to anyone who has been in love. There are few things like the filling that fills the heart when we are sharing our lives with the one that completes us. And your poem sparkles pure wholeness.

  6. A perfectly romantic poem. Love feels even warmer in the midst of winter. I am also sensing a bit of a twist at the end, but I'm probably wrong as it hasn't been mentioned. In any event I enjoyed your poem so much.

  8. I had a good giggle at the bit about the fireplace. Love is quite good at generating it's own heat. And then I full out laughed at the younger sister's intrusion and your thoughts on it.

  9. You had me laughing at the young sister's intrusion! As I've mentioned before, you write romance with such great skill. Your poems transport the reader straight to the core of human relations. I really enjoy reading your writing.

    1. Her sister was about 18 at the time and they were very close and I don't think she was spying other that to give her opinion on me later to my girlfriend.
