Love vanishes

Your love vanishes
Like fond dreams of the morning
Now axed from my mind

Love shatters like glass
Broken with my clumsy words
Listen to my song

I rub my old wounds
And seek your name on my heart
Gone, gone with the wind

Can I settle in this land?
Knowing I see the same sky
That lights up your face

  1. It's the same sky for all of us, isn't it? The sun shines on us all and the rain comes to us all as well.

  2. So sad! And something I think so many can identify with! Beautifully done!

  4. To have a dream axed from one's mind is a cruel loss indeed!

  5. Love can vanish, it just reaches its' end, like a life, run its' course, then we get to practice 'letting go, again.'

  6. Having a dream axed from the mind is indeed painful, but some dreams are better cut off. This is a poignant poem. It touches something we've all faced in life or will face.

  8. Strong work, OE! This brings up an old flame for me. The pain at his leaving (30 some years ago) rose to the surface through your words. You've plucked a string in my spirit this morning that usually sits still. Thank you.

  10. Melancholy drives these words; a sad expression of lost love.

  12. I like Walt's choice of words: melancholy. It's never easy to lose love,

  16. Sometimes that is the only connection we can have with those we have lost... the same sky.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoying a Sonja segment :)

  18. Oh this one I like even better than “Drifting through…” The contrast between gentleness and violence—like “fond dreams” and “axed”, “shatters like glass” and “listen to my song”—is essentially powerful, demands to be heard, to be felt, and it is. And again, as with “Drifting through…” the final stanza is profound, leaves the reader deeply reflective, feeling bereft.
