I have feet of clay

I have feet of clay

Time does not erode the past

If only it would

I do not feel safe

I shudder and shake in bed

Sheets twisted in knots

Waking like an owl

My home is the inky night

I foresee the flames

What did I do wrong?

Immeasurable failings

Bending of the truth

Time passes slowly

My mouth is full of pebbles

I still yearn for peace

  3. "mouth full of pebbles" is a stark images that I think will resonate with others as much as I - Lovely and haunting all at once.

  4. Bending of the truth... is that such an immeasurable failing? After all, that is the hallmark gift of the writer, isn't it? I think the word 'yearn' led us both to a similar contemplation! Thank you for sharing your, always insightful, words!

  5. We all seem to have been drawn to feet of clay..and tormented nights..maybe peace is not so easy to find when you are one of life's thinkers..

  7. We are never truly safe, but we cling to the illusion that it is possible. Peace, however, doesn't require safety. Maybe that is what we should teach each other.

  8. First off..love the photo. "Time does not erode the past," is a truth and my take-away line.

  9. We can try and try again. But that midnight uneasiness seems to come to us all. Nicely put.

  10. Thinkers think and doers do. Perhaps we will find that desired peace when we finally realize just how much we need one another in order to create it. Deeply thoughtful and well woven piece.

  13. Oh, this is so adventures... I see you waking up as an owl (knuck-knuck-who is here-who-who.who?- so many owls flying today...lol)...in inky night...~ last stanza -'Time passes slowly
My mouth is full of pebbles
I still yearn for peace' - love it very much, tell me you're still the student of life and treasure the peace! Thanks! :)

  14. The eyes on that owl would keep me up at night! I guess if someone is going to bend the truth too much they will suffer the consequences!

  15. "Yearn for peace..." Robin, this was masterful. The whole premise of a sleepless night, of regrets, plus that line, "my mouth is full of pebbles," are those unsaid words, or simply that you're feeling like you're misunderstood? You blew me away with this one. Amy
