A close friendship
I must be careful
Not to hug you by mistake
For you would clout me
How many seasons
Have we two played at this
game
Close but still distant
Winter when we met
I saw strength and
confidence
We were unalike
In Spring you blossomed
Full of life and hope for
love
Yet sad when his love went
You let me touch you
We talk and trust the other
In our joint sadness
You laughed as I flirt
With your affections in
that
Autumn of my life
I must be careful
Not to hug you by mistake
You would still clout me
I say
ReplyDeletetake the big chance
hug on purpose
Cheers!

time to hug and say how much they mean to you
ReplyDeleteKnowing when the right moment has come is tricky, no matter how well-versed one is in these things.
ReplyDeleteHa..very cute poem. Hard to read the signals sometimes. Fortune favours the brave and the bold...wear a crash helmet:)

Still remarkably young at heart I see. Obviously not 'sans everything'. Well done!
ReplyDeletethis brings back times long gone with a friend who could have been more but wasn't

ReplyDeleteI'm with JazzBumpa: Take a chance and hug, no matter what happens!
ReplyDeletewhat is the saying..."reach out and touch someone"...and then get arrested as a preditor.
ReplyDeletethe hug might still be worth it:)
ReplyDeleteLove is a tenuous line..so many rules..there is a bonus to being socially isolated..you can hug the pot plant and it will never mind..
ReplyDeleteI nominated you for the Liebster award see here http://sheilaghlee.blogspot.ca/2013/03/the-li.html
ReplyDeleteI loved the simple honesty of this relationship, your poem is so well written, and it made me smile. Maybe the attempt is worth getting cloutted! :-)
ReplyDeleteAh, the u[s and downs of romance. Love the "clout me" lines. Lovers tend to do a dance of balance... one down, one up. And sometimes, they meet in the middle, and that's perfection. Heartfelt and real, Robin. Peace, Amy

Another wonderful poem. I think the speaker should just ask for a hug, it can't hurt to ask!
ReplyDeleteBetter a live chicken than a dead duck I think!! Respect the wishes of the person you care for!
